The Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CTPS) is a data file of businesses who have registered their objection to receiving direct marketing calls. The Regulations require that companies comply with an Individual's request for suppression made to the central registration scheme no later than 28 days after the request is registered.
The Corporate Telephone Preference Service (CTPS) is the central opt-out register whereby businesses can register their wish not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to either all their organisation's telephone numbers or to certain numbers. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the CTPS.
The CTPS is managed and administered by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). Data8 are licensed to hold the data and perform CTPS cleansing services for our customers to ensure that they comply with legislation.
If you need to register your company on the CTPS to stop unsolicited sales calls to your business then you need to visit the Corporate Telephone Preference Service website. The TPS enables Individuals (consumers, sole traders, and (except in Scotland) partnerships) to register their objection to receiving direct marketing calls with a central service. This means that the TPS file contains consumer telephone numbers as well as some business numbers.
The CTPS includes corporate bodies such as a limited company in the UK, a limited liability partnership in England, Wales and Northern Ireland or any partnership in Scotland. It also includes schools, government departments and agencies, hospitals and other public bodies.
Therefore if you are contacting 'business' numbers for the purposes of sales and marketing, you must perform data cleansing against both the TPS and CTPS files, as the TPS file contains business numbers also. If you are solely contacting consumers for the purposes of sales and marketing, then you only need to screen against the TPS file.
